2024 saw significant changes at IFRA, with a new Chairman and President taking up new terms of office. Here, the outgoing Chairman and President reflect on the achievements they led in 2024 and their reflections on their legacy leading the fragrance industry's global trade association.
Reviewing IFRA’s 2024 work and its transitions
2024 marked significant transitions for IFRA, with Martina Bianchini passing leadership to Dr Alexander Mohr as President and Paul Andersson succeeding Hans Holger Gliewe as Chairman. A key achievement was developing IFRA’s 2024–2029 strategy and continuing to promote the safe and sustainable use of fragrance worldwide via the IFRA Standards. Priorities included further engaging small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in regions where IFRA is not yet fully embedded, addressing the global impact of increasingly stringent regulation, and advancing sustainability with tools like the open-source IFRA Green Chemistry Compass, supporting companies worldwide.
Looking back on 8 years as President of IFRA
Celebrating her eight years as IFRA President, Martina Bianchini shares her pride at three key achievements: leading regional expansion with new offices in Singapore, São Paulo, and Delhi; celebrating IFRA’s 50th anniversary by creating the We Love Fragrances book that inspects IFRA’s legacy and achievements; and completing the IFRA Strategy 2024–2029 – establishing a blueprint for the association’s future. Martina expressed gratitude for the wonderful people she met during her tenure, cherishing the memories and collaborations.
2024 was a year for strategic development – Outgoing Chairman Hans Holger Gliewe
In 2024, IFRA developed a new five-year strategic plan to address industry consolidation and defend its interests, working closely with new board members. Key regional activities included hiring a director for Southeast Asia and engaging with Latin American governments to align legislation. IFRA’s geographic expansion focuses on emerging markets with growing consumer bases and new legislation. By advocating science-based regulations and building global partnerships, IFRA is well-prepared to serve the fragrance industry for the next 50 years and beyond.
