IFRA opened an office in India in 2022 and continues to build upon its engagement with regional stakeholders
In India, IFRA focuses on addressing technical advocacy challenges through initiatives like a 41-week perfumery course, workshops on sustainability and the Green Chemistry Compass tool, and the third FICCI International Fragrance Business Summit.
For 2025, IFRA aims to expand programs aligned with its 2024–2029 strategy, including collaborations with BIS, CSAR-CIMAP, and other partners. Efforts will focus on standards, sustainability, and new chemical legislation.
IFRA seeks to strengthen its presence in India, driving progress in sustainability and the fragrance industry.
The 41-week perfumery course at Hindu College addresses India’s shortage of skilled professionals in the fragrance value chain, from cultivators and processors to downstream industries. Designed in collaboration with the fragrance industry, the course equips professionals to modernize technologies, establish standards starting at the cultivation level, and meet industry demands.
This initiative aims to elevate the Indian fragrance industry, enhance its global competitiveness, and ensure sustainable development across the entire value chain. It promises a transformative impact on the sector.
Improving sustainability in the Indian fragrance value chain
The awareness campaign for ingredient substances focuses on improving sustainability in India’s fragrance value chain. Key areas include soil quality, cultivation practices, post-cultivation techniques, marketing challenges, and stakeholder management.
Working with CSAR-CIMAP, IFRA has identified intervention areas for 2025 to enhance practices. As a major sourcing hub with diverse cultivation varieties, India requires targeted efforts to address these challenges.
Over the coming years, the campaign aims to implement sustainable practices across all fields related to fragrance cultivation nationwide.
